Downtown Inverness has many unique shops to stroll through and restaurants where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch or dinner. Visit the Heritage Museum and store in the old courthouse which was built in 1912. Scenes from Elvis Presley’s movie Follow That Dream were filmed in and around the old courthouse.
Enjoy fishing and boating on the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes. Relax at Liberty Park and Wallace Brooks Park. The 46 mile Withlacoochee Trail runs along side both these parks and is the perfect place to stop and take a break from bicycling, jogging, or walking on the trail. Visit the beautiful 290 acre Whispering Pines Park. There are trails, a swimming pool, water playground, disc golf, and many more amenities. Dog walking is permitted along the perimeter of the park. Also, for your enjoyment is the 710 acre Fort Cooper State Park. There is a small lake, picnic tables, plus 6.2 miles of hiking trails. Pets are allowed in this park. The Withlacoochee State Forest provides hiking, nature and horse trails, and camping. Interested in car racing? The Citrus County Speedway is the place to be on a Saturday evening during racing season.
